温州ミカンは、江戸時代から日本で親しまれてきた果物であり、明治時代以降の品種改良により、現在のような甘くてジューシーな味わいが生まれました。この絵を通して、そんな温州ミカンの歴史と魅力を、芸術的な視点で表現したいと考えました。

｜Citrus unshiu - The Fruit of Art that Colors Japan's Winter

Let me introduce you to my Citrus unshiu artwork. I tried to express the beauty and vitality of this fruit, which is a representative of Japan's winter.

The vivid orange fruits and delicately drawn leaves are characteristic of this piece. I strived to realistically reproduce the freshness of the Citrus unshiu and how it shines when bathed in sunlight.

This artwork was exhibited at the "Flora Japonica" exhibition held at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in the UK in 2016, and was also displayed at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno, Japan in 2017. It was even featured in the British newspaper, The Financial Times (FT), and received high acclaim both domestically and internationally.

Citrus unshiu have been a beloved fruit in Japan since the Edo period, and through varietal improvements since the Meiji era, they have developed the sweet and juicy flavor we know today. Through this painting, I wanted to express the history and charm of the Citrus unshiu from an artistic perspective.

This work, created with life-size giclee printing, faithfully reproduces the texture and three-dimensionality of the Citrus unshiu. When you gaze at the painting, you should be able to experience the feeling of having the actual fruit right in front of you.
