I have added "Citrus unshiu (Satsuma Mandarin)" to my Shop Collection. This is one of my representative works, exhibited at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (KEW) in 2016 and at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno, Tokyo in 2017, as part of the exhibition of Japanese endemic species "Flora Japonica."
The Satsuma Mandarin is believed to have originated in Nagashima, in the Satsuma region of Japan (present-day Kagoshima Prefecture), and was given its name in the latter half of the Edo period.
Interestingly, its English name is "Satsuma Mandarin," and British people call mandarins "Satsuma." This name originates from the fact that when friendly relations were established between the Satsuma Domain and Britain at the end of the Edo period, mandarin seedlings were sent from Satsuma to Britain.
